SUMMARY:Alphabets for Quantum Field Theory
DESCRIPTION:As the LHC accumulates data\, the need grows for more efficient\nmethods to compute scattering amplitudes. One such method manages to\nswap the difficult problem of integrating thousands of Feynman diagrams\nfor a much simpler one: solving a system of linear equations. This can\nbe done when there is a known « alphabet » of appropriate singularities\nfor the amplitudes. I will describe a case where this has been pushed\nquite far: six-particle amplitudes in maximally supersymmetric\nYang-Mills\, where I have computed amplitudes up to seven loops. I will\nthen change gears and discuss a class of functions where the form of\nthis alphabet is not yet known. These functions have surprising links to\nCalabi-Yau manifolds\, and occur in general theories as early as two loops.\n
