As the LHC accumulates data, the need grows for more efficient
\nmethods to compute scattering amplitudes. One such method manages to
\nswap the difficult problem of integrating thousands of Feynman diagrams
\nfor a much simpler one: solving a system of linear equations. This can
\nbe done when there is a known “alphabet” of appropriate singularities
\nfor the amplitudes. I will describe a case where this has been pushed
\nquite far: six-particle amplitudes in maximally supersymmetric
\nYang-Mills, where I have computed amplitudes up to seven loops. I will
\nthen change gears and discuss a class of functions where the form of
\nthis alphabet is not yet known. These functions have surprising links to
\nCalabi-Yau manifolds, and occur in general theories as early as two loops.
