Support services

« support » services

At the CNRS, support functions support scientific research, the core business of the institution. In fact, these are all the skills that provide services to laboratories: finance, purchasing, information systems, general services, communication, etc.

The LAPTh administrative department, made up of 3 people, is responsible for supporting researchers in their research activities by providing them with administrative, financial and logistical support. To this end, it works in close collaboration with the various departments of the CNRS Alps delegation, the Université Savoie Mont Blanc and the Institut de Physique (INP).

The administrative service carries out 4 missions:

Human Resources Management, for the administrative monitoring of permanent and temporary staff, whether the agents are researchers, teacher-researchers, post-doctoral students, technical engineers, administrators, collaborators (French or foreign) or trainees.

Welcoming new staff (permanent staff, temporary staff, scientific collaborators and interns), assisting them during their integration within the unit.

Management of scientific publications by ensuring the collection, verification and registration of scientific publications in national and international databases.

Support for research administration for the management team and staff, for financial, technical and logistical aspects.

The administrative department is responsible, in this context, for managing the laboratory budget, the credits of which come from the CNRS, the USMB and its own resources. It also manages all of the LAPTh’s expenses in compliance with accounting and public procurement rules.

He carries out the necessary procedures for the travel of agents as part of their missions, for practical aspects (hotels, tickets, visas, etc.) and financial aspects (payment of allowances).

It participates in the organization of seminars, thematic schools, national or international scientific conferences, as well as general public events, whether for the logistical or financial part.

He also collaborates with the LAPP administrative department and the Alps delegation for the infrastructure part of the building (belonging to the CNRS).

The IT department and IT at LAPTh:

The two laboratories LAPTh and LAPP are hosted in the same premises and share the network infrastructure. The IT services of the two laboratories are shared, they are responsible for system administration, the network and IT support for users.

The computer has become an essential tool for LAPTh researchers to successfully carry out their research. It is used for symbolic or formal calculation. Among other things, it allows the manipulation of very large expressions that would be extremely difficult to manipulate by hand. It is also used for numerical calculation, in which case it allows the evaluation of very complex formulas (a manual calculation would take hours and use thousands and thousands of sheets of paper!!!). Or to approximate solutions to equations that are too complicated to be solved.lues analytiquement.

LAPTh researchers have developed computer tools that have made the laboratory famous in the fields of collider physics, astrophysics and cosmology.
